Pretty and poisonous

Select areas of Bermuda’s reefs breed an enormous — and unrivalled — profusion of anemones, one of the most beautiful and delicate creatures of the reef. In our waters you will find diverse colours, sizes and types of anemones to astound you.

Giant Caribbean Anemone

The giant Caribbean anemone deserves particular attention for its great size. Often measuring 25CM / 9.8IN in diameter, this anemone is usually light purple or green, with tentacles strikingly tipped with purple or pink. As with other anemones, its tentacle tips contain stinging poison cells. View from a safe distance.

Portuguese Man O’ War

With tentacles trailing up to 15.2M / 50FT, this is one creature you will want to avoid. The man o' war is actually a floating colony of individuals that function as one organism. Its brilliant blue, gas-filled float acts as a sail, and its name comes from its resemblance to a 17th-century warship. Very pretty, but very dangerous.
